1 In Torn City doing crimes gives you a different type of experience to regular 'Levelling' experience. This exp can be lost. You lose crime exp by getting red results in any crime you do, whether you go to jail or otherwise. This also counts for OC failures in which you have been affected. You lose a % of your exp every time this happens. The more crime exp you have the better crimes you can do, and more you will help in OC's (or hinder less). Crime exp is invisible, the only sign of how high your crime exp is, is the size of your nerve bar, which can go up or down in lots of 5, to a maximum of 45 ('natural', eg without merits).

2 If you don't have the required amount of money on you

$

Y

E

X

i would also like to add that when you move up 5 nerve bar you should do busts to secure that bar.
if you try doing higher crimes straight away or the same crimes it may result in you going back down to the neve bar you was previously on.

would you be able to add what nerve bar is recomennded for any of these?

It has been my experience that it is hard to know when to switch from searching for money to selling copied media. I was getting $9 - $12 results with searching (not above average) when I switched to selling media, and I get similar results on a much harder crime. This may seem like small potatoes to most, but I lost my whole char in the fall, so I have to comment on what I've learned starting again.

For the jump from 20-25 nerve, I was told to continue mugging the loanshark... this is apparently wrong, atleast on the new system. You will be jailed as your crime exp exceeds that crime. However, I never got jailed on thorough robbery. btw I just swift robbed the bank for $715.

i have done over 600 arson all on werehouse and in the larst 3 days i have been court 9 times and been put in Hospital 4 over 6 hours at a time

Aerozol: please do remember that you lose a percentage of your crime exp each time you ge a red result, meaning you should go down a crime to try and regain the lost exp, or you will fail more and more, and crimes WILL get harder, and you will fail more

just gained a 25 nerve bar doing the thorough robbery crime (had to do them all week) - every now and again i'd do a 4 or 5 nerve crime if i got a brown result.

i never lost any exp as i got no red results doing it this way

i tried a virus crime before i got the 25 nerve bar i only ever got brown - as soon as i got the nerve bar increase i could do the virus crime so i think u have to have a 25 nerve bar for that crime

i have completed the basic computer course and the intermeadiate comp course before the nerve bar increase so i don't think made a difference

hey...
When I do larceny for cars, it sometimes says i tried to get a gas can but failed (brown result). Would I be able to get it? Cause i don't wanna spend 100points on it...

@maximilian,

I've been on 20 NB forever now. Currently doing Thorough Robbery (the 2nd one). I've yet to get a red result from the 200 tries. So try this and stick to it. Larceny gives minimal experience and won't improve your NB anytime soon.

My stats so far for this crime, if anybody's interested: 0.05% brown; about 5 under 300; the rest 300 - 400.

I have an important question. When it says thorough robbery gives experience but Thorough Armored Car is harder, when I do through armored car, do i gain less experience than thorough thorough robbery although its harder?

TCB: The next crime up generally ALWAYS gives more exp than the previous one. The 'Good Experience' tags denote what crimes give unusually good exp, and that the ones above it don't give that much more for the (usually much)larger chance of being caught/ failing.

I played very conservatively -- I only did Robbing Kid for a very very long time until I kept getting browns from it. Then I got the hint and moved along. At which time I found I could mug the rest of the gang but still got the rare reds. Being fed up with this I just moved along into swift robberies then thorough robberies. The few times I moved down from brown thoroughs, I got reds on swifts. But a soon as a stuck to thoroughs, it was as I described above.

I got my 25NB now. (Lost it on a red swift armour but regained it in 20 thoroughs.)

If you can't do thorough yet, rob businessmen and once in a while test yourself against the loan shark. Remember, reds will set you back quite a bit and you may have to repeat your old crimes just to regain. But as soon as you can, stick to thoroughs.

I am level 18, 30 nerve. I have noticed that I get about 90% of stealth viruses as green. As soon as I get two brown in a row, I do another crime, come back, and I get another 10 or so green in a row. I can't say enough about the Stealth virus. It takes a while to get the education, but the rewards are well worth it. I go up about a level every 8-10 days now.

how does being caught for crimes work? my crime exp dropped till i have to do kid for about 100 times, then recently i up lvl so i changed to old woman and i got green for consecutively 10 times, i dint get jailed or anything, but suddenly got red for old woman

TCB: There is a random factor for all crimes. Ten passes for one fail is considered pretty good..
Sam , June 15, 2007

if i do a crime and get 100 green result, lets say i get 100 unit exp, when i get jailed for the same crime, about how many units of exp do i lose?

TCB: There is a random factor for all crimes. Ten passes for one fail is considered pretty good..

does that mean i gain more exp than losing in that being jailed?

TCb: It varies for different crimes. Later crimes, especially those we've marked with a red 'E' lose you a LOT of exp upon failing. In that case you might have to drop down to a crime you know you can pass, for a few days even. Not getting red results at all is always the safest bet.
Sam , June 16, 2007

Hey if you attempt a crime when your crime exp is too high for it, will you get jailed?

Staff: Not automatically, but sometimes you seem to get jailed more often because your exp is too good for a crime. Sometimes failing means you have to move up a crime...

I've been able to do hacking with greens most of the time. However whenever I hit a red, I lose my nerve bar and it takes a bit to get it back up again, therefore I think you lose a decent amount of exp with reds on Hacking.

how can you tell if you get good exp gains or not ... like the A is for good exp gains and the X is for bad ... but how can you tell

TCb: We don't have a way to find exact figures, it's all taken from public opinion. Very informed guesses pretty much.

People have been asking about increasing nerve bars and mugging the loan shark, so here's my experience:

I spent well over a month trying to secure my 26 nerve bar (I used one merit on nerve.) I'm not sure how, but I managed to lose it twice due to bad luck and a misaligned cosmos. I was level 15 (upgradeable) and was doing mostly thorough robberies and occasional drug deals. I busted close to 100 people to boost my experience, but progress was agonizingly slow anyway. As soon as I upgraded to level 16, I got up to 26 nerve.

Out of frustration and going against some advice given here, I started mugging the loan shark. I got up to 31 nerve in less than a week and a half. I'm currently level 16 (upgradeable.)

Currently, I'm trying to find my niche... I'm bored with mugging the loan shark and starting to fail anyway. I've successfully done simple and polymorphic virus crimes. I failed my first and only assassination attempt, and I get either green or brown on stealing parked cars (my gas can is still a week away.)

I hope somebody finds this useful.

I know, but I've heard from several sources that it's not effective for people with high nerve bars any more. If it can carry you all the way to 30, then that's certainly not true.

Armed Robbery >> Thorough Convenience

Range = $300 - $450
Average = $376

Armed Robbery >> Swift Bank

Range = $250 - $800

BTW, for Thorough Robbery (the Sweet Shop), I've never gotten a red result, and I stopped counting at 200 green.

how do you know what your crime stat's actually are. i have no idea as i am only very new

TCB: Your actual crime exp is hidden, but your nerve bar will increase by 5 when you get to a certain amount. Also the crimes you have done so far (can be seen on your home page) give you an approximate crime exp ( -exp lost by failing crimes, which is also not shown).

Thought I'd share with you guys how I got my shiny new 30NB. In my earlier post, I've already deduced that a failed thorough 7NB is worth 20 success thoroughs. So I've already deducted for my failures here:

40 busts, 20 steal jackets, 30 mug loan sharks, 628 thoroughs (388 thorough, 13 convenience, 226 banks, 1 armoured).

There you go. Take this as a rough guide as I can't vouch for my own note taking. The banks I did in recent weeks and that one armoured I did last week. And yes, I did get a dismaying amount of browns (and one red) the past couple of days -- which seem to support the theory that browns are indication of leveling.

1. You open up your laptop and hookup your CreditCard Scanner.
2. You insert your cd full of valid credit card numbers.
3. You run a batch program making a total of 50 Fake Credit Cards.
4. You go to the drop off point to fence the cards.
5. There is a limo waiting for you at the drop off point.
6. The window Rolls down you hand him the cards and he hands you a briefcase.
