For a list of cars and their upgrades, you can visit the Info Page. For a guide on what parts to buy and when visit the Upgrades Guide.

Note: You need to be level 10 in order to access the racing feature in Torn City

Getting Started:

Getting a car: The first thing you will need to do is to get a car. You can either steal one doing the 12 nerve Grand Theft Auto crimes, or by buying one in the item market. (Be careful stealing one, you need a good amount of crime exp in order to steal one). There is a lot of debate on which car to use, but a general rule of thumb is that the more expensive the better. It is possible to get race wins in any car, but you should probably get a GT40. It is kind of expensive, but it is better than the other cars and there is really no point in wasting money on any others. All of the top racers use the GT40.
Getting set up: Once you have obtained your car, it is now time to register it. Click the Register your car to race link on the Torn City Raceway main page. Then, add the car in your inventory that you want to race. You can only have five registered total so make sure you are aware of this. (Note: Once you register your car into the race track it is forever removed from your inventory and there is no way to get it back or sell it.)

Now you need to select the car you want to race with. You can either go to your garage and click the Go here to choose a car to race with link or click the Select car link on the Torn City Raceway main page. Either one goes to the same page. Congrats! You are now ready to start racing. Before you do, though, I’d recommend buying some parts for your car…

Car Parts:

For a comprehensive guide on what Parts to buy when, go the the Car Parts Tutorial.

The main key to racing comes down to 2 major factors, wins and endurance. You can think of the cars parts as multipliers as weapons are to strength. Now that you are all set up to race, you should buy upgrades for your car. Just click the Parts Store link on the main Raceway page. At first, you are only going to be able to buy 5 upgrades. Make sure you buy these before you begin racing. There are four categories of parts; Acceleration, Top Speed, Handling, and Extra. Every win after two wins is going to let you buy 2 additional parts. (Drag racing doesn’t affect your win count.) Each part has a wins requirement. If you do not have the number of wins needed to buy a certain part, you can not buy that part until you meet the requirements. You will have to upgrade your car with something else, so plan for this. Try and keep your parts balanced in each category. You don’t want to put too many top speed or acceleration parts without balancing it out with handling. You will have a higher chance of crashing. All of your extra parts do not help you in racing, but will help reduce the time you have to spend in the hospital in case you crash. (Here is a list of all the parts available, their price, and how many wins are needed to get them.) (Note: All parts the parts you buy are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you buy parts for your current selected car, you can not use those parts on any other car.)

After you buy your parts in the parts store, you will need to equip them. Go to your Garage and click on the Follow this door to go to your parts room link. Now equip your parts and you are ready to go. Racing: Note: For whatever reason, both types of races show a player’s current name. In a drag race, once you accept the race or the race has been accepted, it will show the player’s name that they originally signed up with. In a circuit race, it will show the current name in the roster, but once the race is completed, it will show their original name in the race winners section on the main raceway page.

Drag Racing: Drag racing will not help you gain wins. It is possible that it adds a bit of racing experience, but this is not confirmed. This is a head-to-head racing feature much like Russian-Roulette except that luck plays a minimal factor. If someone can beat you in a circuit race, they will most likely beat you in a drag race, unless they are under the after effects of a drug. (Note: Being under the after effects of drugs dramatically worsens your chances of winning a drag race. It also possibly increases your chance of crashing and losing your car.)
This feature is a good way for newer racers to gain some money opposed to the circuit races because its head-to-head feature gives you the control over who you are going to race. A good general rule of thumb is that you want to try and race people with similar win counts, level, and days old. As I said earlier, and will explain later, your win count and the amount of endurance you have factor in to whether or not you will win. People with similar level and age will have a similar amount of endurance, unless they are in a law profession.
Drag races run every fifteen minutes at set times. At XX:00, XX:15, XX:30, and XX:45
(Note: Be careful when drag racing, as you have a chance of losing your car. I have dragged raced many, many times, and have not lost my car. Though it is rare, it is possible. When you lose your car, you lose not only your car, but all of the parts and wins.) Circuit Racing: This is where racing is at. This is where you can get all your wins. The more wins you have, the better you will be. Your wins are one of the biggest factors in whether or not you win. In general, someone with more wins than you will most likely beat you. They either act as a multiplier with your endurance, or it is an experienced based system in which the benefit is just associated with the racing experienced earned from each win. Either way, the number of wins you have is extremely important. Also, this experience or multiplier is attached to your car, not the person.
You can not lose your car in a circuit race, but you can crash. If you are in the hospital or jail while a race you are entered into finishes, you will see a message in your race results that says “Username crashed their car into the wall and were taken to the hospital for minor injuries but can still race at a later time,” and you will be sent to the hospital for a new set period of time. Depending on how many extra parts you have, it is usually about 6 – 8 hours of hospital time. (Note: In a drag race it just says that you were unable to make the race whenever you are in the jail or hospital when the race is ran.)
Races are run every ten minutes. They go four at a time, but only if eight total racing slots are full. By racing slot, I mean each race. The race slots don’t all go off at the same time. I recommend using this to your advantage. Race slot 1 and 3 go off after ten minutes. Then, slot 2 moves to 1 and slot 4 moves to 2. Then, the same thing applies again. Slot 1 and 3 get raced while slot 2 moves to 1 and 4 moves to 2. If you get into race slot 4 you are going to have to wait at least 30 minutes before your race finishes and you can race again. (Note: Sometimes lag will affect whether or not a race is run and will occasionally make a race skip. Just be patient, eventually it will run.)
One last thing, it is extremely hard to gain wins at first. If you’re struggling to get your first win, talk to friends and coordinate your efforts. Organize a time so that you all can enter a race together. This helps reduce the chances that someone else who can beat you will join your race. A little persistence goes a long way. Be patient, eventually you will get a win. Good luck and happy racing!

Companies And Endurance:

Companies:Companies with racing Skill Upgrades: Gas Station, Mechanic Shop, and Car Dealership. Job Skills: Rating 1 and up: Machinist (Improved skill on car racing) Rating 3 and up: Discount Parts (25% Discount on car parts) Rating 5: Junkyard Dog (Trade 15 job points for a random car) (It is strongly advised that you do not use the 3rd special as using your job points will decrease the performance of your car. NB: Not 100% clear.)

You will gain 1 times the company rating every day, this means that if you are in a rating 2 company you will get 2 job points per day, rating 3 you will get 3 job points per day and so on. If you leave the company the job points (racing exp) will be lost, even if you return to the company they will start at zero again. The job points are equivalent to wins, for example if you have 50 wins and been in a rating 3 company for 50 days your car would preform as if it had 200 wins. Do nto underestimate the importance of companies when racing

It is not recommended to start your own company. It is very expensive (tens of millions minimum, for the cheapest ones) and getting to rank 5 is extremely difficult since you are competing with all of the other companies: Your rating is based on your popularity, which is split between all existing companies of that type. As the director of a company you get 1 job point per rank and 5 of each working stat per rank daily. Remember that as a worker in a company (especially with high work statistics) you are valuable and can get pay and trains as a bonus.

Endurance: For the stat gains the primary stat is endurance. Endurance helps you win races so this again is another good reason to join one of these companies if you plan to be a racer. if you are not active daily however, you may be kciked from the company for lowering their productivity, and it might be a good idea to stick with law.. Law has a job special to trade job points for endurance that will benefit you daily wether you log in or not.

Racing Teams:

This next section is about racing teams. The idea behind racing teams is to organize races, for example you would get at least 5 people together on instant messenger and wait for an empty race by sitting there and constantly refreshing the race page, and getting everybody to join the same race. This is a great way to get wins, also if you can agree for the winner to give back the entry fee to everyone it’s a cheap way to get wins for everyone. The way you take it in turns by winning is to have your team mates use a zero win car with no equipped parts: unless they have extremely high endurance you should get a win. But don’t be to greedy and remember to share the wins. If you race in a better car than you claim and win all of the time, you will most likely no longer be able to join. Once you get over about 10 wins the need to be in a team will decrease and eventually you will start to join races with the knowledge of who you can and cant beat on the track. Waiting for four people who you know you can beat to join for a race can be effective, keeping in mind that other people do this too. It is believed that racing even if you don’t win adds a little exp to your car and it can also be a good way to make money- If you have a friend who isn’t too good fill a slot for you in a race so you know you’ll win, it’s a good way of narrowing the odds, and getting them a little exp too- and money, if you want to pay him for his help.

Frequently Asked Questions: Do you need a driver’s license? Technically you don’t, you can enter both types of races without one. It doesn’t seem to affect the circuit races at all, but it is rumored and could possibly affect your crashing frequency in a drag race. It is up to you if you want to get one or not. How much does luck affect racing? Luck plays a really small role in racing. When you are first starting racing it might play a significant role, but after you get a few wins in, it is all your win count and endurance. Do your battle stats or working stats affect racing? Your battle stats do not impact racing at all, but your Endurance does! How do you find your racing rank or stats? There are not really “ranks” per se. You can find out how many wins you have by checking your garage and looking at your car. Each car has it’s own wins, and the only way to gauge your ‘rank’ is by comparing your wins to other racers.

What level do you need to be before the “Race Track” link is available? Aerozol: Level 10. Btw all level requirements are listed in the ‘Level Benifits’ tut, if you need anything else

I dont think this article is 100% accurate… I dont think that formula that determines who wins is based purely on luck (like Russian Roulette as stated by the author). i think there is more to it. i think work stats also play a small role.. along with a few other things..
written by Warsteed, March 12, 2007
I would like to add one more to the circuit race results. There is also: You lose and crash, yet only a small bit of damage has occurred to your car (so you can race again)

How can I buy a car for this competition?
written by Warsteed, March 19, 2007
Ierdna: You can buy a car in the market, basically any car you can steal from the GTA crimes can be “added to your garage”. Just know though, any car you add cannot be put back in your inventory and “sold”

What´s the matter with the car race? I singed in for the race and still didn´t race yet – its a few hours ago since I took part of it. Aerozol: Races can take a long time to start, since there’s a lot of people waiting for races. You just have to be patient sorry…

Racing is different now… When racing first came out it was easy to win, but now there are just a few select people who have there cars suped up as best as posssible, so they cant lose, and enter the race every 10 minutes… My car is a Gt40 with 36 wins, and about 3 million worth of parts.
written by Elemant, August 25, 2007
… And i still cant win. LOL. Its pretty sad. never enter a race with Agent-Orange in it >.> its a waste of 10k, I think hes on 200 wins now
written by M_DonOmerta, August 25, 2007
Maybe good to add that when you signed up for a race and then get attacked you ALWAYS loose since you are in hospital. The crash then also adds time in hospital.

I am level 10, have 37 job points that could be spent to increase driving skill, but I find I can not spend them. Are they automatically tallied and, if so, when I leave the company will I lose that skill?

Can I equip Performance Power Pack with Performance Drag Pack? I dont want to make any mistake if i buy wrong parts…
written by Bloodbather, September 15, 2007
It’s probably worth mentioning that new racers have virtually no chance of winning races, because of the players who have been racing since it came out, their racing exp is so high you’d need a ridiculous number of job points to come anywhere near them.
written by Altarious, November 01, 2007
Ok to clear up a few questions.. this is what I have learned during my racing experience.. It may not be 100% accurate but through my research I have concluded the following to be very likely: First of all.. I don’t think you can lose your car in a circut race, but you can definitely lose it in a drag race.. you lose all your exp and your car wins and all of your parts.. your racing exp is all tied to your car so choose wisely.. gt40 is your best bet.. don’t waste time with any other car.. On that note one thing that severely impacts drag racing is if you are under the effects of drugs.. I don’t know if it impacts crashing, but it does effect whether or not you win and you will most likely lose Once in a circle race and you either go to the hospital or jail you automatically crash you car into a wall and it gives you a new set amount of jail time.. In a drag race it just says that you were unable to make the race.. YOU NEED A DRIVER”S LICENSE!!! One thing I see over and over again is this question.. technically you don’t.. you can enter races without one.. but you will crash… without taking the driver’s course in education you are destined to waste 10k and end up in the hospital from crashing into the wall Another thing.. with the racing exp job special.. it is pretty much bull.. it gives you a small boost in racing performance but not enough to really matter except during the 0-50 wins phase in your career.. it doesn’t matter how many job points you have.. it is a set passive skill.. it does not improve the more job points you have.. when you quit you lose that skill (aka small advantage) Another thing is that luck plays a really really really small role in racing.. only when you first start racing does it matter.. after that it is all racing exp.. your working stats do matter a great deal, but I am not going to tell you which one impacts it.. don’t message me, I won’t tell you.. do experiments, it is pretty easy to figure out.. Car parts don’t really matter much.. except like luck, only in the beginning… after that it is all exp and the working stat.. so please stop messaging me asking me what car parts I have.. I have done a lot of research on this.. it doesn’t really matter.. there are a ton of unanswerable questions when it comes to what car parts to mix with what and what not to put on a car… just upgrade it as much as possible and race.. I don’t think there really is a right combination.. and if so it still doesn’t matter.. racing exp is all that matters.. I have seen the set up for every one of the top racers and we are all different.. Although what car parts you have does impact how frequently you crash in the beginning.. so if you notice yourself crashing a lot and you haven’t been in jail or the hospital, you are not under the effect of drugs, and you have done the driving course.. you might want to try and tweaking your car parts combination and try out different parts.. some like to use wide body kits on a gt40 but I choose not to.. I kind of think they have a negative impact on the car.. but I have not done any research on this Any other questions please feel free to message me in-game Altarious (15507)

Also, The race slots don’t all go off at the same time.. use it to your advantage.. race slot 1 and 3 go off after ten minutes.. then slot 2 moves to one and slot 4 moves to 2.. then the same thing applies.. 1 and 3 get raced 2 moves to 1 and 4 moves to 2.. if you get into race slot 4 you are going to have to wait at least 30 minutes before your race finishes and you can race again.. I think the same rules apply to the following race slot but as I can not see them I am not sure..
written by Altarious, November 15, 2007
Ok, I need to make a few clarifications.. First of all, having a driver’s license or not does not impact the circuit races at all, but it is possible that it impacts drag racing. I would just be safe and get one if you plan to drag Also, I didn’t mean to deemphasize car parts. They are extremely important. They will help you win. You want to fully upgrade like I said before. What I meant was that it is the combination of the parts that you shouldn’t worry about. Another thing, the racing skill special.. It does give a significant boost to your racing ability, but it is only useful when you are first starting out. The reason why I say that is because there is a better job special to get once you get some wins in you, or you are a high level. I lied, I will tell you the working stat.. its endurance.. endurance is key.. once you have some wins or are a high level, go into law and use the endurance special

Racing should have a beginners class. If you are new to racing you will never win. It’s a waste of money to buy a car to race if you’re new and a waste of 10,000 to race it.

I agree 100% i got a top car with a great setup and im still fighting for my 1st win 50 tries..100 tries.. hard to say.. kinda hard to even get started when you have no chance of winning to even update your car.. guys with 1000 wins tend to sit back and jump in the race when all they see are the beginner racers.. it would definatly be nice to see a few classes added to make it more of a level playing field..im sure it would bring more players to race instead of scaring them away.. TCB: If you have four like-minded people, why not wait for an empty slot and all join at once?
written by Dirty_._Sanchez, January 10, 2008
I totally agree on they need to set levels on racing or handicaps for beginner racers. I spent 200k trying to win a race and haven’t won 1 race yet I think it sux, and I may give up on the whole race thing. Whats really sad is i spent almost 200k on my gt40 and can’t resell it not to mention the money spent on parts and the 200k i spent on races. Over half a million spent and zero return.

I totally agree with the tut that 2DIE wrote (I dont know where its posted I jsut read it in a .txt file) and all the info on this page, I have only won a few races so far but have made twice as much money as i had before I started, this includes money spent on parts, and continuing to get more and more =]

Racing is broken. Dont waste your time and money until its fixed. The same 2-3 people win every race. Way to go TC…
written by Fuzz, January 27, 2008
Its not broken, its because those people have wins and you dont, read the part about racing teams to get yourself some wins and then you could be winning all the time too. TCB: <3
written by crimelad, March 31, 2008
No, racing is broken. Complete waste of time. Fix it or remove it.
written by aerozol, March 31, 2008
What’s broken about it? Wins give you exp, which makes you stronger, just like in TC. If you try to attack a level 40 in TC, and you’re level 1, you’ll LOSE, and that doesn’t mean anything’s broken at all.

Well like above people have said, racing may work exactly like it is intended, but I’ve tagged most all the 15 people and their times zones range enough over the world that a friend and I spent a weekend and monday watching most all the time and the winner of every race was listed as someone on that list. I never once saw it not be in 3 days. So that may be all fine and good to say get 4 people together to try to ‘outthink’ the system, but it certainly would be psychotically obsessive. Why not make racing take 50 energy just like beating someone up does. Then they couldn’t just constantly race their car for the 5 hours they are on. Or make a car class. I have never ever seen a race where it would technically be okay to race most of these cars against a gt40. And change the entrance amounts for each class, and the rewards, and make it so at a certain amount of wins you can’t race in that class anymore. Easy fix. or, you can have the thousands of people who would enjoy racing not race for long while the four amateurs join a race at a podunk track and mario andretti zooms up laughing. TCB: We’re pretty sure the race leaders have just set firefox to refresh the race page every ten minutes, all day, every day, since day one. It doesn’t have any macro protection.

Total waste of time if you are a beginner, you won’t win, the only ones that win are those already established at high level. It’s like putting a banger racer up against a formula 1 there should be dif levels, as there are in real life

how do you take your cars out of the race track? TCB: You can’t. Yes you can, all you have to do is be veery drugged up, and drag race someone, if you crash your car durring a drag race it will be completly destroyed, thus removing it from the race system, ive raced JimmyJames a fewtimes and he has lost 2 cars because of it
